Mommy Yiau

A blog about everything that revolves around me – as a mommy, as a wife, as a daughter, as an employee etc etc

It’s time….

I have decided to discontinue my breastfeeding journey.

In fact I’ve initially planned to stop after Chinese New Year but I’m yet to wean her off mid night feed so I still keep it up till now.

Kaith will be turning 8 months by next Monday & she has already started on solid food. Although I wish to be able to breastfeed longer, but as a full time working mum, it’s really not easy to keep it up due to work commitment, plus there is a demanding boy at his terrible 2s at home. :)

Anyway, I’m happy & proud that I’ve achieved my “target” (to breastfeed at least 6 months), so it’s time to nicely put a full stop to my breastfeeding journey now without any regret …. :)

I have truly enjoyed both of my breastfeeding journey and I think they are one of the most beautiful moments in my life, and the greatest gift I had given to my kids.

Both are sick

It’s the last day of Chinese New Year today, also known as “Chap Goh Meh”. But is isn’t too lucky for Dillon and Kaith as they are both down with coughing and running nose.

It’s all started with Dillon coughing since Sunday and I think the virus must have been transmitted to Kaith yesterday. After taking some medicine, Dillon is already recovering now but he still have running nose and hence his appetite isn’t very good these days.

As for Kaith, she just started coughing last night. She was sleepless and same for mummy, who doesn’t know what to do to comfort her. I seriously have not had “experience” in handling a sick baby because in the past, Dillon has not fell sick except for 2 times of very mild fever after jab, which recovered within the day itself. I cradled Kaith to sleep for almost two hours until my arms became so sore, and of course I didn’t get to sleep as well.

The pediatrician said that although Kaith is a breastfeed baby, whom by right have a stronger immune system in her body but in this case, the virus is much stronger and I have to monitor closely and take good care of her, otherwise it might lead to bronchitis.

Now I just hope that both of them get well soon.

Pureed baby food

My daughter Kaith is already 7.5 months and I’ve started to prepare baby food for her, as how I did for Dillon in the past.

I have started with all vegetables only and here is the recipe.

Cut carrots, potatoes into dices and cook in water until it’s soft, then add in cauliflower and cook for another minute. When it turns cold, mashed it or pour all into food blender to blend well.

Portion out in small containers and keep in freezer. Thaw in fridge the night before for next day’s feeding. Reheat baby food by steaming, or put the container in a bowl of hot water.

P/S: Normally I’ll make a big batch of 4-5 servings for my baby’s consumption, this is especially useful and convenient for working moms.

Outdoor photo shooting

This is another backdated post

Met up with Jasmine the weekend before Chinese New Year for outdoor photo shooting.

Date: 3rd Feb 2008 (Sunday)
Time: 10am – 12pm
Venue: Bandar Tun Razak Lake Garden

It was raining when we meet up at 9am and then we hang out at McDonald’s for breaskfast while waiting for the rain to stop. Although rain has stopped around 10am, but the sky was still cloudy when we reach the park so the pictures didn’t turn out as nice as it could be. But anyway, I’m happy to meet with Jasmine and appreciate her effort in taking the nice shots for us.

Reunion Steamboat Dinner

This year’s reunion dinner I have decided to have steamboat dinner as it doesn’t require a lot of time for preparation or cooking.
I’ve prepared a great variety of ingredients for steamboat, which includes prawns, cuttlefish, dory fillet, fresh scallops, jellyfish, pork fillet, abalone slice, dumplings, meatballs, fishballs, crabsticks, seafood tofu, fu chuk, button mushroom, fresh mushroom, golden mushroom, oyster mushroom, beancurd, seaweed, vegetables etc. As for the soup base, I used chicken carcass, plus some red dates, kei zi, yuk chuk and a little salt to taste. Of course, it is very important to have a spicy chilli sauce as condiment.

New Toy

This is a backdated post

Right before Chinese New Year, hubby said that he needs a better camera to capture nice shots of the kids & he thought to invest in a DSLR camera, while keeping our Canon Ixus as secondary camera.

After doing some research in the market, hubby finally bought a Sony A200 DSLR at a very competitive price. Lately he’s been playing with his new toy trying to figure out the settings & etc. Dillon & Kaith has become his best model for practising his skills. :)

Here are his very first shots of the kids:

I assume there will be more great pictures coming up later……:)
