Dillon is turning 3 this coming December and I’m planning to send him to kindergarten next year where he will enrol in 4 years old class.
Actually I’ve been paying attention to the kindergarten in my area and I’ve already narrow down my search to 2 most decent ones, I visited both on yesterday and got the fees schedule as well.
To be frank, I never realised nowadays the fees for kindergarten kids could be this expensive. These 2 kindergarten that I visited, their fees schedule are as follow:
Reka Kindergarten:
registration: RM50
insurance: RM20
uniform: RM28/set
monthly school fees: RM240
books, phonics, misc: RM340 (half-yearly)
Yu Der Kindergarten:
registration: RM100
insurance: RM20
uniform: RM30/set
monthly school fees: RM330
books, phonics, misc: RM650 (half-yearly)
computer: RM170 (half-yearly)
Frankly speaking, both Kindergarten are very decent but only that kindy B has been established for very long time and has very good reputation, and I like their compound that is so spacious & bright too.
But their half-yearly books & misc fees being RM650 (Yu Der) really shocks me big time, the teacher said the books are from Singapore but still, it’s almost50% more than Kindy A! I wonder, does it really matter what study materials our kids use? And computer class for 4 years old kid, I’m also not sure if it’s necessary (but it’s compulsory in Yu Der)
All experienced parents, mind to share your insights? What other things I should look out for when scouting for a kindergarten?
As for myself, I just want a decent environment for Dillon to play, to do some studies, learn some good values and get to interact with other kids as well.

2hahaha….ok…this is news to me too. Never expected kindy itself to be so expensive!!!
Guess the most important criteria is go for the one that makes you most comfortable. One of them must exceed the other !

3By the way…I was just told that this is cheap!! Sigh….
No uniform for your kid?
karenyiau: got, uniform is RM28 per set for kindy A and RM30 for kindy B, everything in kindy B seems to cost more.

4Yes nowadays kinder very expensive. If you put full day the fee can kill you. I visited a fungates method kinder recently. For full day per year can easily cost me RM7k. But the Kinder B you mentioned, the monthly school fee quite expensive hor, normal kinder charge about RM250/mth.
karenyiau: yes loh but i was more shocked by the half yearly books & misc fees, maybe because of its reputation la but i think i don’t need that for my son by paying that kind of fees.

6Thanks for the post. It never hit me that kindi fees are so expensive now.
Now, I must start planning and think of how to make more $$
karenyiau: hi rachel, i think kindy B are just being on the high end side but even looking at kindy A’s fee, it is still not cheap.

7Karen, expensive doesn’t mean it’s good. I chose medium for my kids and in return they showed progress. Speak 3 languages, know how to use PC(school provided). Cost for registration is 1000 inc books etc and monthly 400 (inc daycare).other than that they look more independent and friendly. for kindy B, for me it’s expensive..
but if you want to choose kindy for Dhillon, I would suggest you to see kindy environment(clean and safety), teachers , students (more kids more possiblity get infected and teacher out of contro), Sylibus because that the most important

8i choose the one nearest to me…logistics la…petrol price la…hehehe
practical la i guess
karenyiau: ya one of the reasons i would choose the nearest kindy is because i’m sending dillon only for half day, and i can’t possibly fetch him from kindy so he gotta travel by school van, hence nearer is better for him also.

9Karen,
wonder whether this kindy B is a montessori??? if it is, then definitely it will be more expensive than those normal kindy… i found one montessori near my area, the fee per month will cost RM500…
karenyiau: kindy A is also montessori but it’s not as expensive. anyway i have not much fuss about its monthly fee but the books + misc fee, rm650 for half a year shocks me.

11Kindy B almost same fees with the one my kids study. But the books fees a bit expensive huh? Please bear in mind that if they using Spore syllabus for study, and if you plan to send him to local primary school, will be a bit different.
Just my 2c.
karenyiau: thanks vivian for your views, actually i have not much fuss about the monthly school fees of kindy B but just the n\books + misc fees too much. i just want a decent environment for dillon to play & study.

12Wow… Kiddy seems to be very expensive. I still have a couple of yrs b4 I come to tis stage.. Do scout around. U might get a better ones. Good Luck
karenyiau: yes will still scout around but most likely i will settle with kindy A because it’s the most decent one with reasonable fee (in compare with kindy B) in my area, others are quiet a distance away.

13Hi. Did you go for any trial lesson with kindy A and B, its good to join the trial class before deciding..long establishment might not means it good. My boy’s centre is newly set up and I find that they have their good points too.
karenyiau: hmmm…. i didn’t know that there are trial class? at least both kindy A & B never mentioned it. anyway i’m going to visit again during school days and find out how the classes are conducted etc.

14Hi Karen,
In my opinion, if ur kids is enrolling as early as 4 yrs old, my main emphasis is not so much of academic but have fun..lots of crafts. music and play to develope their Right brain and social intellectual. The environment should be as close to school set up as possible. what i mean is not really necessary to be airconditioned, so exclusive and high class kindy. Ultimately they need to learn survival skills in a normal school.
As long as the compound is clean, tidy and spacious for play, it’s alright for me.Oso mozzie free lah hopefully.
The rationale of uniform is to impose discipline and sense of responsibility as a student. some kindys mnagers dont believe in uniform (at least i met one here in my area).
Do check out the general population of parents who send their kids …if majority are working professionals and decent people..u can be rest assured it wont be a “rough and bad influence ” kind of community at the kindy. “the saying goes..like parents like child”. (sorry if i’m being bias here)
i reserve all the above strictly as my personal opinion and dont mean to hurt or condem anyone.
karenyiau: thanks for your sincere opinion, and yes i agree with you, at his young age (actually turning 3 only this Dec), i’d emphasis more on activities and learning through play, therefore i prefer montessories teaching. i’ve just visited another school few days ago and i like it so much, and i’ve decided to send him there, i’ll share more about this school in my next post, stay tuned.

19Hi yiau,
Have you enrolled your son to any kinddi?
I just enrolled my son to yu der kindergarten (taska subuh). I also agreed that their fees on high side but however can claim part in income tax for purchase of books.
karenyiau: No not yet, I’m thinking to enroll him to mayter in taman tayton, i prefer the environment there and it’s cheaper than yuder, but only one thing the location is not nearby loh…… you staying near pandan indah?

20Hi yiau,
Heard about mayter before. For me, I never consider kinddi that far away from home for my son no doubt a lot of good kinddi at the other part of cheras. Taking into consideration of petrol and time taken, the cost will be more or less equal to the fees of yuder. Another factor for me to consider is the travelling time for young kids. Too stressful for them, lah. They still need time to rest/nap. But need to prepare ourselves, once young kids go to kinddi, they are more prone sickness.
Frankly speaking, I can’t find any decent, established and good kinddi around pandan indah/taman putra for my son to learn, play and mix around with right crowd. So, i landed my son in yuder and I’m intended to sent him to chinese primary school.
karenyiau: yes you are right, we are in the same area, which I think the most decent choise would only be yuder/taska subuh, but it’s really pricey….. travelling time is what I have taken into consideration, I’m still undecisive between mayter & yuder now, really need to rethink before I enrol. Chinese primary school would be OnPong in Pandan Mewah I think.
